Dear Dance Family,
I am filled with emotions and great sadness writing to you all today. For 33 joyous years, I have been blessed with the honor of teaching the children of this community. I have watched many kids walk through my studio doors filled with uncertainty and self-doubt, leave with newfound confidence in their ability to conquer their fears and take center stage – a skill I personally know, matters for a lifetime.
After reaching out to all of you last week, I received heart-filled responses from many explaining why you would not be able to return this coming season, as well as some from families who intended to come back. Unfortunately, but understandably, the majority of our students’ families are unable to return next year, some for health reasons and concerns, and others for financial reasons induced by the current pandemic.
As I read through your responses, I came to a painful realization. After teaching thousands of students hundreds and hundreds of dances, Dancers Unlimited is simply unable to keep our doors open. Maintaining the facilities is simply not possible given the lack of tuition income.
Regrettably, our last season was cut short and I know none of us got the closure we deserved to put the exclamation point at the end of this amazing sentence. Unfortunately, we had ordered costumes, paid instructors and booked the recital venue and the studio was unable to recoup most of the costs involved. That means, Dancers Unlimited is unable to issue refunds for the tuition, costumes, fees, etc. that had been paid up to the point of our closure. As I’m sure you understand, those funds were used in good faith to pay rent and keep the lights on since we fully intended to return and believed we would be able to do so. I truly hope that you understand how much your support has meant to me throughout this time.
In the near future, I will send out a text via Remind 101 to arrange pick-up times for your children’s costumes. If you have questions regarding any of this information, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.
Thank you all, from the bottom of my heart. Although this is not the way I imagined it would end, sharing my love for dance with your children, as well as with many of you, has been the great honor and joy of my life.
With love and gratitude,
Laurie Templeton & Dancers Unlimited
Dance Changes Everything!
In July 1987 I opened the doors of Dancers Unlimited. I can remember all of my music was on 45's (records) and a few cassettes. Just me, a turntable and some mirrors I got from a closed down barber shop, lol. I had no idea that 34 years later my dream would come to an end.
Don't be afraid to dream, just go out and make it happen. It's not always easy, but go out and do what you love💕
